Kidney Kind

This project was developed at my MA Design For Communication at University of Westminster, as part at RSA Student Design Awards. Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a growing issue throughout the world, and a condition that imposes several limitations in the life of a patient. In my personal experience, I could monitor the treatment of my brother, who was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in 2013. Through changes in his lifestyle, strict diet and self-discipline, my brother managed to take a greater role managing his own care and improved his life quality. In order to better understand how is the life, what are the challenges and what are the eating habits of a person with CKD, I’ve conducted a small interview with CKD patients. Through the interview I was able to certify that one of the main challenges in dealing with CKD it’s the special diet. Kidney Kind is a nutritional information service that helps patients with Chronic Kidney Disease to better plan their meals by providing easily accessible information about the necessary nutrients for a healthy diet. The service would start with a book, with recipes and information about important nutrients from the diet CKD, a smartphone application with the same content but in an interactive way, and finally an awareness campaign about the disease and its special diet.
