Bossa Nova Font

A display typeface inspired by Bossa Nova music, a Brazilian music genre that was one of the first greatest cultural aspects from Brazil to travel around the world. It was very popular in the 60’s and still is respected nowadays. My idea behind this typeface design was to portray Bossa Nova in a more sophisticated way than it usually is, avoiding the Brazilian-carnival-cliche style and mixing elements of classic and modern typography, just like the music mixes elements from Jazz and Samba. The starting point for the design was the letter “S” inspired by the famous Rio de Janeiro’s sidewalks (Calçadão).
